One of the best examples of people skills on this earth isn’t even a person, it’s man’s best friend! Have you ever noticed how a dog becomes genuinely excited and interested to see you without any ulterior motives? He doesn’t want to sell you anything, he is just genuinely interested in you without any strings attached!

We already know that people love you tell you about themselves, and they just want you to listen to them and understand. We want our employees to feel accepted, and we want them to come to work because they want to, not because they have to! Let’s truly ask ourselves how much we know about our employees, do we know what they like to do or what they’re interested in?

Alfred Adler, the Viennese psychologist, stated how important this concept is by saying “It is the individual who is not interested in his fellow men who has the greatest difficulties in life and provides the greatest injury to others. It is from among such individuals that all human failures spring.” Take a moment to think about that, Adler is saying that all human failures, and the greatest injury to others comes from not taking a genuine interest in others, that’s powerful.

Let’s try and focus on truly taking a genuine interest in our employees, and the next time they come to you with a question, or you pass them in the hall, ask them how their newest video game is, our how they’re team did on their tournament this weekend, and ask to listen and genuinely care!
